'Bridgerton' Season 3: What We Expected And What Was Delivered

17 May 2024

Attention: If you don't like spoilers, don't continue reading this article; there are plenty of them ahead.
Everyone has been buzzing with excitement around Season 3 of Netflix's hit show, Bridgerton, and finally, the wait is over. The show aired last night (May 16th, 2024) — only part one, we might add — but it didn’t fail to disappoint. Not long now, the remainder of the show will be dropping next month, so bring on June 14th.

What were some of the rumours around the show?

The biggest rumour we have heard is that the Netflix series will shake up the chronology of the books, which some Bridgerton novel enthusiasts may find disconcerting.
In an official synopsis released by Netflix, it was revealed that:
“Penelope Featherington (Nicola Coughlan) has finally given up on her long-held crush on Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) after hearing his disparaging words about her last season. She has, however, decided it’s time to take a husband, preferably one who will provide her with enough independence to continue her double life as Lady Whistledown, far away from her mother and sisters.”
Fans around the world had already coined the term Polin (a combination of Penelope and Colin) and were very vocal with their predictions.
On Reddit, one user, MakaATaste said “Colin is getting a glow up, I can feel it!”
Another user Smc0303 had this to say, “Give us the masquerade I beg of you”, requesting that the shows stay true to the books. Let’s hope season 3 will scratch that itch if it is a masquerade you are after.
Another user, Loling764, said “we need more of Kate and Anthony, their story gives me life”.
Others have speculated that the "Queen Charlotte" storyline will greatly impact this season's storyline with Violet and Lady Danbury taking centre stage.
In the same thread, Hermiona1 was wishing for another romance to blossom, that of Violet (the mother of the Bridgerton children) with this request “A little side plot about Violet having a little fling or a flirt at least, I think this would make sense as this was mentioned a lot in Queen Charlotte”.

What did Bridgerton Season 3 serve us on May 16th?

Introducing the new Colin Bridgerton
The episode starts with Colin's return, and wow, has he transformed. His travels seem to have worked wonders, leaving him looking incredibly confident and polished. His physical glow-up is hard to miss, and as he reconnects with friends and family, there is a palpable sense of admiration for the person has become.
Introducing the new Penelope Featherington
We open to see Lady Whistledown's gossip spread like wildfire, captivating society's attention and Penelope Fetaherington stands proud. She has undergone a remarkable transformation from the girl next door to the woman every man dreams of. With newfound allure, she navigates the world of suitors and whispers, embracing her evolution with a mix of excitement and confidence.
In Episode 1, we see Penelope undergo a powerful transformation, opting for a striking emerald dress, far from the Featherington house colours (more on this later on). A glimmer resides in her eye. Penelope has decided to take a husband. She has left her crush on Colin in the past and is now looking for a husband.
A romance we were promised was revealed in episode 2
While the rest of the internet was set alight by the return of #Polin, we finally saw something happen between them. Confusion gripped him as the passionate exchange invaded his thoughts and dreams. What started as a storyline had become an emotional whirlwind, blurring the lines between friendship and love. For Colin and viewers alike, the kiss symbolised a profound shift in dynamics, sparking a journey of self-discovery and longing for resolution.
Lady Violet Bridgerton may have found love
In a surprising turn of events, In Episode 3, Lady Violet is spotted engaging with a gentleman who graciously retrieves her dropped glove. It turns out this man is Marcus, Lady Danburys brother. In a moment that seems straight out of a fairytale, their hands reach for the glove simultaneously, locking eyes in an intriguing exchange. Could this encounter mark the beginning of a new chapter in her story? Part 2 is sure to reveal more about this captivating development.
The Kate and Anthony story is far from finished
Season 2 may have centred around Anthony and Kate, but their story isn't finished yet. We get plenty of glimpses of them dancing, honeymooning, and just being a couple in love. And now, it seems they are quietly trying for a baby to complete their family. Amidst all the romance, this adds a new layer of depth to their relationship, showing their commitment to each other in a whole new light.
Fashion has reached new heights
The fashion did not disappoint this season, and just as Bridgertons costume designer John Glaser promised they have been elevated this season. “They've undergone a glow up” he stated. From intricate details, large puffy sleeves to lavish fabrics, every ensemble dazzled with opulence and sophistication, reflecting characters' personalities and journeys.
One transformation that leaves us stunned is that of the main character Penelope Fetaherington (played by Nicola Coughlan) who adorned a stunning emerald gown during her appearance in Episode 1. Nicola Coughlan's portrayal portrayed a character evolving both in appearance and demeanour, symbolising a journey of empowerment and self-discovery. The gown wasn't just an outfit; it represented her emergence into her own spotlight.
Another notable transformation this season is of Kate Sharma. Her style evolution is truly stunning. Her gowns are breathtaking, adorned with delicate flower details that add a touch of magic. They fit her like a dream, exuding elegance fit for royalty. Kate carries herself with confidence and grace, captivating everyone around her..They are the perfect costume for a Duchess.
