You have probably seen those Instagram posts where a Porsche bumper is adorned with a Persian rug, or a Ferrari — once again with a rug — sits in the middle of a field surrounded by flowers. Meet Ali Hosseini, the creative mind behind these images. We got a chance to talk to him and learn about his journey leading up to his current work of art. Attention, there are a lot of “Why?” questions.
— Where are you from?
— I am from Tabriz, Iran.
— How did you start creating art?
— Firstly, I started with calligraphy, then painting, then graphic designing, and finally turned to 3D design. I got my diploma from Mirak Art School and recently graduated from the University College Of Nabi Akram with a degree in graphic design.
— How would you describe your artistic style?
— I always tried to imagine and illustrate my country’s culture with a much more different point of view than what it is. Then, I create it with the tools I have.
— We noticed four central topics in your work: spacemen, clouds, cars, and nature. Let's examine each one. In 2021, a series of portraits featured pieces of the natural world inside spacemen's spacesuits. Why?
— The concept behind this collection delves into the spacemen, each harbouring a hidden and distinctly unique world within.
— Spacemen in your artwork appear almost lifeless or sad. Why?
— The Spaceman collection captures an element of exploration. I just aimed to illustrate the emotions experienced by the spaceman at the end of each search: sometimes feeling sad, disappointed, and tired.
— Now, clouds. Why?
— The clouds give off dreamy and fantasy vibes, mostly showing a different feeling by gathering the other elements beside these clouds.
— Nature. Why?
— I believe nature is one of the most visually stunning and easily understandable elements for the audience.
— Cars. Why?
— In my view, cars, especially classic ones, have a unique elegance and beauty, which reminds some nostalgics.
— Rugs. Why?
— They hold a significant place in my country's culture, particularly in my hometown, where they carry profound concepts and meanings. Iran is renowned worldwide for its exquisite and renowned rugs and carpets
— Why did you decide to integrate rugs into your depictions of cars?
— One day, I saw a classic car in the street, and someone had spread a rug on its hood. I was inspired by that. So that is the reason why I use rugs in my work, back to this event.

— Which artwork of yours garnered widespread attention and led to an increase in subscribers?
— Definitely the Porsche 911 and Persian carpet that I have created. It gained considerable attention both in Iran and internationally after being featured on Porsche's official Instagram page.
— What are your plans for the coming year?
— Trying to create a new culture and showing different features of Iranian art.
