The unforgettable dinner for this amazing crew of artists, who came to Dubai last week to share their music with the city of skyscrapers at the Crowd Test Festival, was held at Alba, followed by a meal next day right next door at Bisou. These two places are not exactly "hidden," but definitely gems of Dubai’s hospitality scene. We explored their signature dishes, soaked in the atmosphere, and took notes on what to order next time!
Last week, Crowd Test rocked Dubai — the one everyone in Dubai’s art and music scene had been waiting for. This was the Saturday night to remember and it really seemed like everyone was there.
The Sandy Times Team brought together artists from around the world to share their beats, music, and the energy of the big city with music lovers. It was an incredible experience, and even though a week has passed, both the artists and attendees are still buzzing and sharing their emotions about the Crowd Test on social media.
But of course, our artists did not just enjoy the event — they also fell in love with Dubai. To show them the very best of the city, we chose two truly unique spots: Alba and Bisou. Below, you will find reviews of these places, featuring honest feedback and personal recommendations straight from the artists.
Alba Restaurant
First of all, Alba is located right next to the Dubai Opera, so, if you are planning a cultural evening in the heart of Dubai, this spot should definitely be on your radar.
The interior immediately catches your eye — minimalist but elegant, with a modern Asian-inspired design. Imagine lots of glass and stone, vertical lines that make the space feel even more expansive (though it is already quite roomy), a stunning spiral staircase, and marble tables.
The ground floor has a cosy, dimly lit atmosphere — perfect or a more intimate vibe — while the upper level is brighter, thanks to countless chandeliers decorating the ceiling. I say "countless," but when you take a closer look, you will notice that the lighting strikes just the right balance, feeling warm and inviting without being overwhelming.
Floor-to-ceiling windows on both levels offer amazing views of Dubai, especially in the evening. Speaking of evenings, the restaurant primarily opens later in the day — on weekdays from 5 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 pm.
While the atmosphere is a highlight, the real star is, of course, the food — because let us face it, that is why we are here. Alba’s menu combines modern European and Asian cuisines, with an emphasis on seafood. Tuna, salmon, and prawn carpaccio, hand rolls, nigiri, and sashimi — everything is so good, so believe me, at the middle of the evening you will find yourself ordering dish after dish.
Alba also offers a street food menu, and do not let the word “street” fool you — it also tastes amazing. The meat is tender, the chicken — perfectly crispy, and each sauce pairs flawlessly with the dishes. An absolute must-try! The evening’s favourite was chicken sando from the street food menu (a new guilty pleasure for Lipelis), and tuna carpaccio with melon. Eden Burns mentioned that he absolutely fell in love with the handmade rolls with prawn and the donuts with miso mousse. And, of course, the cocktails made the evening: Phoenix Reborn, Paper Crane Flight, and Nine-Tail Kitsune set the mood for a perfect pre-party.
Bisou Restaurant
Located right next to Alba, Bisou is another must-visit spot in Dubai (approved by Crowd Test’s artists).
Its interior is quite similar to Alba’s, which is not surprising since both were designed by one person, Tristan du Plessis — international award winning interior architect. You will find the same marble elements, circular shapes, and a central staircase leading to the upper level. However, Bisou feels a bit more relaxed. A standout feature of the decor is the artwork hanging on the walls of both the ground and first floors, adding a refined touch to the overall style. There is also plenty of natural light, thanks to the floor-to-ceiling windows and uniquely shaped chandeliers.
Bisou is perfect for a daytime brunch, offering a menu that combines French classics with hints of the Middle East taste. It works from 9 am to 12 am on weekdays and from 9 am to 1 am on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Seafood lovers will be thrilled by the Raw for Company selection, featuring all our favorites — salmon, scallops, and shrimp. But the variety of the overall menu is impressive, offering options for every meal of the day. Our Creative Director Kito Jempere fell in love with Bisou-crab salad (who wouldn’t?), and guys from Mainline Magic Orchestra shared a plate of meze, savouring an elegant twist on Arab cuisine
