The UAE is gearing up to celebrate its 53rd National Day on December 2, 2024, a grand spectacle. Every year, the UAE marks this special day with great fervour and enthusiasm, showcasing its rich heritage and cultural traditions.
The UAE's National Day commemorates the unification of the six Emirates — Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Al-Ain, Sharjah, and Umm al-Quwain — into one nation on December 2, 1971.
Under the guidance of the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the nation's first president, the United Arab Emirates emerged as a unified country. Later, in February 1972, Ras Al Khaimah joined the union, becoming the seventh Emirate.
This year, Al Ain will host the UAE's National Day celebrations, dubbed 'Eid Al Etihad'. The official ceremony will take place amidst the breathtaking natural landscapes of Al Ain, a city deeply cherished by the UAE's people. The celebrations will be broadcast live on local TV channels, cinemas and selected public areas, allowing people across the UAE to join in the festivities.
Authorities in the UAE have announced holidays to celebrate the upcoming National Day. Employees of ministries and federal entities will have an official holiday on Monday and Tuesday, December 2 and 3, while the private sector will also observe a holiday on these days.

Witness the spirit of unity on UAE National Day
The UAE National Day is a reflection and unity time. It is a day when families, friends, and communities unite to mark the country's journey and its people's spirit.
The UAE National Day festivities are all about family-friendly fun. From live music and cultural dance performances to interactive booths and UAE-themed arts and crafts, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Shopping malls, city parks, and public squares across the UAE host spirited events that bring communities together.
Urban centres like Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah set up special National Day markets featuring traditional Emirati products, street food, and unique handcrafted items. These markets provide an amazing experience where families can explore Emirati culture and enjoy a festive atmosphere. Cultural shows often include heritage exhibitions and photo opportunities in traditional Emirati attire.
Schools, community centres, and workplaces also get into the National Day spirit by organising flag-raising ceremonies, National Day dress-up days and art competitions for children. Kids participate in UAE-themed art projects, traditional dress parades and singing the national anthem, instilling patriotism and pride in young Emiratis.

The symbolism of the UAE flag
The country's flag is at the heart of the UAE National Day celebrations, symbolising the nation's values and spirit. The flag's colours — green, white, black and red — each represent a core value of the country.
Green represents hope, prosperity, and the country's landscapes. White symbolises peace, generosity, and the UAE's welcoming nature. Black stands for strength, reflecting the Emiratis' resilience in overcoming challenges. Red signifies bravery, courage, and sacrifices for the UAE's unity.
One of National Day's most iconic and visually remarkable displays is the UAE Flag Garden near the Burj Al Arab. This annual installation features thousands of flags arranged to celebrate the UAE's National Day and Flag Day, providing an awe-inspiring view for photos.
