Best Party Movies To Watch During Long Holidays

27 Nov 2024

Sometimes the tempt to stay at home is just too strong, even though you might enjoy socialising and good dance moves. But hey, if you are not quite ready to leave the sofa, we have a cure: party movies. Nothing like watching someone else navigate chaos, bad decisions, and over-the-line jokes will make you feel better about staying in. From nostalgia-filled classics to downright wild adventures, here is our pick of the best party films to binge-watch when the post-party blues kick in (we definitely have some after Crowd Test). Pop the popcorn, grab the blanket, and let these films take you back to the madness.

Dazed and Confused (1993)

We love the nostalgia of simpler times when teens just cruised around town, trying to find the next great hangout spot. Richard Linklater’s cult classic is all about high schoolers in 1976 celebrating the last day of school — complete with hazing rituals, wild parties, and existential musings. The cast includes a young Matthew McConaughey, whose very first on-screen words, “All right, all right, all right,” became iconic. Whether you are here for the groovy vibes or to relive those awkward teen years, Dazed and Confused hits the sweet spot of humour, and a killer soundtrack.

The Hangover (2009)

Ah, the film that made waking up in Vegas seem both hilarious and terrifying. This buddy comedy follows four friends as they try to piece together the mayhem of a bachelor party gone spectacularly wrong. Bradley Cooper brings the charm, Zach Galifianakis steals the show, and you will never look at a tiger (or a baby in sunglasses) the same way again. Packed with unforgettable moments and lines, The Hangover is a modern classic that turns chaos into comedy gold. Bonus points if you watch the sequels.

Project X (2012)

Is it a masterpiece? No. Is it completely over-the-top madness? Absolutely. When three high schoolers throw a party to boost their social status, things spiral out of control in the most ridiculous ways. Filmed in a found-footage style, Project X is a guilty pleasure that will have you appreciating the relative calm of your own life. Love it or hate it, you cannot deny its cultural impact — and you might just find yourself Googling “Project X-inspired parties” after watching it. Proceed with caution.

Babylon (2022)

While Babylon is not exclusively about parties, it certainly knows how to throw a wild one. Damien Chazelle’s black comedy drama takes you into the glitz, glamour, and insanity of 1920s Hollywood, complete with jazz bands, starlets, and even an elephant. With an all-star cast featuring Brad Pitt and Margot Robbie, the film explores the rise and fall of fame with dazzling visuals and unrestrained energy. Think of it as an ode to excess — with a side of existential dread.

21 & Over (2013)

Turning 21 means a night you will never forget... Or, in this case, cannot remember. This coming-of-age comedy follows three friends who set out to celebrate a milestone birthday, only to face escalating chaos and the looming pressure of a medical school interview the next day.

The Great Gatsby (2013)

“A little party never killed nobody,” sings Fergie in the iconic soundtrack of an iconic movie. Baz Luhrmann’s visually stunning adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s novel brings the roaring ’20s to life with opulent parties, scandalous secrets, and tragic romance. Leonardo DiCaprio dazzles as Gatsby, and the film’s lavishness will make you long for a champagne tower of your own. It is a feast for the senses and a reminder that sometimes, even the most extravagant lives are not all they seem.

Superbad (2007)

Want something more low-key but equally hilarious? Superbad is a coming-of-age comedy about two high school best friends determined to throw the ultimate party before graduation. Jonah Hill, Michael Cera, and Christopher Mintz-Plasse deliver perfectly awkward, laugh-out-loud performances in this timeless ode to teenage dreams and disasters.
