Are you among those lucky pals who managed to get a ticket to the Thirty Seconds to Mars concert on December 12? If yes, I am far too jealous to comment. If not — I am here for you. This nostalgic vibe has once again made me ponder Jared Leto’s style. As a fashion editor who has spent far too long analysing who what wears, I have written about Jared many times over the years, eagerly dissecting his Gucci moments and MET Gala appearances. And yet, despite all my experience, I cannot help but adore this man’s wardrobe — at times predictable in its sheer audacity, but always captivating.
Here are the key features of Jared’s 2024 style — and fair warning: do not try this at home unless you are a professional (or happen to have your own glam squad).
Power suit
It used to be Gucci-only territory for Jared. Now, with their ex-creative director Alessandro Michele (Jared’s long-time mate) moving to Valentino, we can still enjoy those signature wide lapels and daring silhouettes. Jared’s versatility shines through as he pulls off not just the ‘70s-inspired suits but also double-breasted tuxedos and even Asian-style kimonos. And let us not ignore the obvious: his abs, which make an excellent case for going topless under these statement jackets. No shirt? No problem.
Gloves
Bright gloves have officially made their way onto my New Year’s wishlist, and you have Jared Leto’s Instagram to thank for that. In his case, they are always leather, adding an effortlessly chic twist to any outfit. Jared has mastered this accessory’s potential to elevate even the most casual of looks. So, if you see me waving around in a neon pair this January, do not ask questions.
Sheer textures
Let us take a moment to appreciate the artistry of sheer fabrics. Historically, only rock stars have had the charisma required to make see-through garments work. Mick Jagger? Perhaps. Freddie Mercury? Absolutely. Jared Leto? Without a shadow of a doubt. He makes sheer look sophisticated rather than scandalous, and that is no easy task. Proceed with caution, gentlemen — this is advanced-level styling.
Hats
Jared’s hat game is as unpredictable as his career. From basic baseball caps to cowboy hats to silk bandanas, his collection ensures that bad hair days are a non-issue. Each piece serves as an extension of his personality, adding flair to his ensemble.
Laid-back style
And now, to my favourite element: the relaxed, oversized outfits. Jared Leto may be a rock star and a fashion icon, but he still manages to exude a sense of ease when he is off-duty. Whether it is a Hawaiian shirt, some oversized T-shirt, or a pair of slightly wrinkled trainers, these looks provide a sharp contrast to his more polished public appearances. This contrast keeps us guessing — where does the real Jared lie? Somewhere between the tuxedo-clad fashion god and the man in the comfy flanel shirt, I suspect.
