Travel preparations for the first-ever visit to Jeddah

As a weekend visitor, you will have limited time to explore the city's top attractions. As you prepare for your first-ever visit to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, excitement and anticipation are likely building up. To ensure a smooth and enjoyable trip, it is essential to plan and make the necessary arrangements. The Sandy Times will lead you through the preparation process, helping you make the most of your weekend getaway to Jeddah.

First and foremost, obtaining a visa is a crucial step in your tour preparations. With a reasonable amount of time required for the process, it is recommended to plan at least two to three months in advance for your trip. Additionally, consider acquiring travel insurance to cover yourself against any unforeseen issues or accidents that might occur during your trip.

When booking your transportation, flying is the most convenient option. Saudi Airlines and many others offer extensive routes throughout the globe. Act wisely and inquire about special offers to help you save on your flight ticket. Alternatively, if you are coming from a neighbouring city, you can also reach Jeddah by road or train, taking in the astonishing scenery of Saudi Arabia along the way.

As you fill your travel bag, remember to respect the local culture and dress code. Saudi Arabia is an Islamic state, and adhering to the dress code is essential. Men should avoid wearing shorts unless they are at the beach, while women should wear a headscarf and long cloak during their stay in Jeddah. Wearing a hijab is not compulsory. However, it is expected to dress modestly.

Communication won't be a problem, as Arabic and English are the two most commonly spoken languages in Jeddah. However, hiring a tour guide can be a great way to see the city, so be sure to check with your travel agent or ask your hotel concierge for a recommendation.

Discover the charm of Jeddah in 48 hours

As a first-time visitor to Jeddah, you will wonder how to make the most of your 48-hour weekend getaway. With its rich culture and amazing architecture, Jeddah is a city that will leave you enchanted.

As you arrive in Jeddah on Friday morning, start your day with a delicious breakfast at a local café. Fuel up and get ready to explore the city. Begin your journey along the Jeddah Corniche. It is a waterfront path stretching over 30 kilometres. Go for a walk or rent a bike and enjoy the sea views, green parks and important city landmarks.

As you stroll along the corniche, visit the iconic King Fahd Fountain, the tallest fountain of its kind in the world. Take in the magnificent views of the Red Sea and snap some photos to capture the moment. Next, head to the Fakieh Aquarium, where you can marvel at over 200 marine species, including seahorses, sea lions, and sharks.

After a morning of exploration, take a break for lunch at one of the many restaurants along the corniche. Try some traditional Saudi cuisine, such as kebabs or machboos, and don't forget to wash it down with a refreshing glass of Arabic coffee.

In the afternoon, venture to Al-Balad, Jeddah's historic old town and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the narrow streets and admire the traditional architecture, including the famous Naseef House, now a museum and cultural centre. Be sure to visit the local souks, where you can find unique souvenirs and try some traditional Saudi sweets.

As the sun sets, go back to your hotel to freshen up and get ready for a night out in Jeddah. Visit the Jeddah Art Promenade, an outdoor art gallery that showcases the work of local and international artists. End your night with a delicious dinner at one of Jeddah's top restaurants, such as Al Baik, a popular fast-food chain that serves mouth-watering fried chicken and crispy fries.

On Saturday morning, start your day with a visit to the Floating Mosque, also known as the Al Rahma Mosque. This remarkable mosque is built on the waterfront and offers splendid views of the Red Sea. Take a moment to admire the beautiful architecture and calm atmosphere.

After you visit the mosque, turn your steering wheel to the Red Sea Mall, one of Jeddah's largest shopping centres. With over 300 stores and restaurants, you will find everything from high-end fashion to classic Saudi souvenirs.

If you have time, consider visiting Al Tayebat International City, a beautiful museum complex that showcases Saudi Arabian art, culture, and history. Alternatively, you could visit the Jeddah Planetarium, which offers interactive exhibits and stunning views of the night sky.

For thrill-seekers, Atallah Happy Land Park or Al Shallal Amusement Parks are great options, offering a range of rides, games, and attractions.
