Saudi Arabia Cultural Digest 2025: Must-Visit Events

25 Feb 2025

Saudi Arabia is a rapidly growing market in every sense — the International Monetary Fund has projected it to be the second-fastest-growing economy globally in 2025. It is no surprise that the country is evolving into a major hub, with an increasing flow of business, tourism, and, of course, artistic and cultural exchange.

This year is particularly rich in incredible cultural events and art exhibitions, all infused with the unique rhythm and essence of Arabic culture. While some events, like the AlUla Art Festival, have already taken place (this one received a lot of positive feedback, so we should definitely plan a visit there in 2026), plenty of must-see highlights are still ahead. So, if you have been looking for the perfect artistic or cultural excuse to visit — here it is (and not the only one)!

Islamic Arts Biennale

Jeddah, January 25  May 25

This is not just another art event — it is a large-scale international cultural exhibition, running for four months and welcoming art lovers until the end of May. The first Islamic Biennale took place in 2023 in Jeddah, making it a relatively new event for Saudi Arabia, which only adds to its impressive scale. Naturally, the core theme focuses on Islamic culture and religion, with one of the great features being the exhibition of original objects from the holy cities of Mecca and Medina.

In addition, there are exceptional artefacts from well-known yet unexpected places, such as the Louvre Museum in Paris, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, and the Ahmed Baba Institute in Timbuktu — over 500 artefacts in total. Another aspect is the diverse blend of countries involved — not just from the Middle East or the West, but also from Central Asia, with Uzbekistan participating for the second time. But be ready — you will need to come here at least twice — the overall area of the biennale spans 10,000 square metres.

Art Week Riyadh 2025

Riyadh, April 6  April 13

Mark your calendars — this will be the very first Art Week in Riyadh!

For one week, nearly all local art-related galleries and institutions will come together to showcase an incredible range of creativity. While the event will take place across different districts of Riyadh, its heart will be in the JAX District.

The highlights of Art Week will be divided into three main parts:

  • Main Exhibitions — Curated by leading Saudi galleries in collaboration with renowned artists.
  • Collectors' Showcase — A unique display featuring private collections from passionate art lovers.
  • Interactive Experiences — Workshops, public talks, and other activities to bring visitors closer to the art.

Everything looks like something really incredible! Let us see.

James Turrell Exhibition in Wadi AlFann

AlUla, until April 19

Although the AlUla Arts Festival has come to an end, one exhibition (which was part of it) will still be open until April 19 — James Turrell Exhibition in Wadi AlFann. Curated by the CEO of the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, this exhibition is designed to perfectly complement the atmosphere of AlUla, home to Saudi Arabia’s first UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The exhibition explores themes of light, stone, colour, and geometry. What makes it truly unique is its use of natural light — each space interacts with the surrounding environment in a way that cannot quite be described, only experienced.

If you are planning a trip to AlUla, this is something you definitely shouldn’t miss!

The Red Sea International Film Festival

Jeddah, December 4  December 13

This is Saudi Arabia’s official annual film festival, dedicated to supporting filmmakers from the Middle East, Africa, and Asia. It is worth noting that the fourth edition, held last year, was a huge success, breaking attendance records — so expectations for the fifth edition are even higher!

As the event is scheduled for the end of 2025, not much has been revealed about the programme yet. However, in 2024, the festival featured 122 films from 85 countries, including 61 premieres. The most important aspect of these festivals is not just increasing awareness (though that matters too) — such initiatives are backed by government and local funds, with Red Sea funding in particular providing crucial support. With everything being done to drive both regional and global cinema, it is no surprise that the impact of these films will only continue to grow!

Concerts in Saudi Arabia

Abu Dhabi and Dubai have long been concert hubs, but now Saudi Arabia joins the list with two new cities: Riyadh and Jeddah. While it is nearly impossible to cover all the concerts happening in the Kingdom, here are three of the biggest and most highly anticipated events.

First up is the Guns N' Roses concert — the legendary American rock band is bringing their performance to Riyadh on May 23, 2025, following sold-out shows across Europe and the Middle East.

Next, we have got a 2-in-1 event that will kick off with American singer Usher and be followed by American DJ Major Lazer at the official opening of Saudi Arabian Formula 1 — the perfect mix of music and energy (so we could say, a 3-in-1!). This will take place in Jeddah on April 20, 2025. And if you think that is it, think again! Major Lazer will be bringing their high-energy beats to Saudi Arabia that same weekend — same vibe and even more music!

So, mark your calendars and get ready for an unforgettable concert season in Saudi Arabia.
