Time Travel Through Music: The Childhood Of Rhea Jacobs

27 Aug 2025

What are those little things that take you back in time? When you were five years old, and your biggest mission in life was convincing your parents to stop by the toy shop so you could stare at that new car or doll. Or later, when you were preparing for final exams day and night, and choosing a university felt like a decision that would shape your whole entire future.

Maybe it is something obvious, like family photo albums or those grainy old video recordings buried in storage. Or perhaps it is something less tangible — the stories your grandmother shares with you, or a song that happened to be playing in the background at the time.

We are stepping back into the past with our friends, revisiting fragments of their childhood and youth through music — beautiful memories captured in sound. In this first part, we journey into the childhood of Rhea Jacobs, an entrepreneur, author, model, and digital creator based in the UAE.

Growing up in Dubai, my childhood soundtrack was a mix of everything — from Bob Marley to AC/DC, Lauryn Hill to Snow Patrol — depending on how I felt. I used to paint a lot, and I loved how different styles of music could completely change the way my craft flowed. The city itself was so peaceful back then; the tallest building on Sheikh Zayed Road was probably the Trade Center, and we would watch the skyline change every single day from our window. Ice skating was another weekend highlight — we would beg the DJ to play our favourite songs and skate for hours.

But my favourite childhood memory has to be camping trips in the mountains with my parents and family friends. Everyone would bring their favourite food, we would make steaming cups of Karak, sing songs late into the night, and simply enjoy being together. The best part is, it is a tradition we still keep alive in Dubai today.
