The Story Of a Photoshoot That Happened While Strolling Through Istanbul

A group of creatives — photographer Sonia Sivkova, stylist Danil Khorunzhiy, makeup artist Daria Sillvaris, producer Ekaterina Dementeva and a model Eda from New Models Istanbul Agency — recently pulled off an incredible photoshoot across various spots in Istanbul, and they did it in such a way that you wouldn’t immediately guess it is Istanbul.

A bit about the shoot: “The concept was all about capturing the essence of Istanbul with trendy underground looks that blend seamlessly into the surroundings. The goal was to convey the vibe of the bustling city centre, vibrant markets, and crowded squares by incorporating bright colours into the outfits. The entire shoot was designed to showcase the city's spirit and energy.”

There wasn’t a concrete plan for where to shoot. Searching online for “Most picturesque places in Istanbul” or “Best places for photoshoots in Istanbul” wasn’t an option — those would likely be tourist spots or overdone locations. The aim was to find hidden, unexplored spots and show Istanbul from a non-touristy, authentic angle.

So, the decision was made to just... walk. Armed with all the necessary gear, it was time to explore Istanbul from top to bottom in search of those perfect spots. The team said: “The top tip for finding the perfect location: walk everywhere. Explore every street and discover hidden gems.”

The model was a local girl: “Our model was a true Turkish beauty found through local agencies. Meeting her at the casting, it was clear she was perfect for the story.” Interestingly, she didn’t speak English, which, according to the team, actually enhanced the atmosphere of the shoot, immersing everyone in the Turkish spirit.

The walk lasted five hours, and four unique locations were found. So, enjoy the result of that photoshoot.
