We all have this special “noodle mood” once in a while (and for some of us, this “once in a while” happens several times a week).
A hearty soup to nurture the soul and body, especially after a night out.
A Brief History of Noodles
Originating in China around 2000 BCE, early evidence was discovered in the Lajia archaeological site. From China, noodles spread throughout Asia, becoming the local stars in regional cuisines like Japanese ramen and Korean naengmyeon. The Silk Road further facilitated the exchange of noodle-making techniques between Asia and the Middle East.
In the 9th century, Arab traders documented pasta-like foods, influenced by Asian noodles. The theory that Marco Polo brought noodles to Italy in the 13th century is popular but debated, as evidence shows pasta was already present in Italy. The Arab conquest of Sicily in the 9th century introduced pasta-making to Italy, and by the Renaissance, pasta was a staple in Italian cuisine.
The Industrial Revolution and Italian immigration in the late 19th and early 20th centuries helped spread pasta globally. Today, noodles and pasta are enjoyed worldwide, and here we;ll share some of the fav spots of our team to have some proper noodles.

Obvious, but unbeatable.
Pick any ramen from the menu and enjoy a perfect bowl of soup with home-cooked noodles.
Don’t miss out on their sushi and appetisers selection as well — they know raw fish and grilled meat as well as they know ramens. Honestly, this is just an ideal place for anything, no words needed, just go.
Rightfully hyped by Just Food DXB, this is a JLT spot with legit home-style Chinese noodles. Traditional flavours, lots of oil, and perfectly wide hand-pulled noodles.
Check out their wantons if you like dumplings as much as we do.
This author’s personal favourite dish in Chinese cuisine that is on the menu is Chili Cucumber Salad, that would be a perfect accompaniment to any carbs-based meal. Add some extra meat or tofu and be proud of feeding your vehicle (body = vehicle) properly.
Locations:
- Lakeshore Tower, JLT
- Nakheel Mall, The Palm at @depachika.ae
- City Walk, Dubai @daikanizakaya_ae
- Yas Bay Pier, Abu Dhabi
Great place with many locations, each with a twist. This author’s favourite of all is the JLT branch, because of its vibe and style. Also, you can have a long walk to survive after overeating, as it’s so good. Always crowded, always good music, always amazing staff — Daikan is a great idea for any time. Go for Miso Aubergine as entree, then enjoy shoyu or shio (sry, but these are the best) and add some extra protein.
Location: Raffles Hotel, Dubai
The fancy one. Authentic Japanese restaurant with a great choice of noodle-based dishes. Enjoy their high-end ramens with a great view. As a bonus — they have business lunches, so you can have a good bite to brighten up your day with a special offer.
Unexpectedly, TOMO also serves brunches, so you can have some gluten and celebrate the weekend.
