Emirati Women’s Day Is Coming: How To Celebrate It In Dubai
Image: Gemini x The Sandy Times
There are occasions that deserve more than a polite bouquet, a branded LinkedIn post and a complimentary dessert after lunch. Emirati Women’s Day is one of them. In 2026, the celebration is expanding into Emirati Women’s Month for the first time, running from August 28 to September 28 under the theme “We Emerge Stronger and Better”.
Announced by Her Highness Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak, the “Mother of the Nation”, the extended programme is intended to go beyond applause. It will recognise the leadership, achievements and everyday contributions of Emirati women while encouraging institutions to launch initiatives that create lasting change. In other words, less corporate confetti, more actual action.
The theme feels especially fitting in the UAE’s Year of the Family 2026, where conversations around women’s careers cannot be separated from childcare, family responsibilities and workplace flexibility. Sheikha Fatima has called on national institutions to introduce proactive policies supporting working mothers and women caring for senior citizens and people of determination. Celebrating success is lovely; making success structurally possible is rather better.

First, a little history
Emirati Women’s Day was established in 2015 under the directives of Sheikha Fatima bint Mubarak. It takes place every year on August 28, marking the anniversary of the founding of the UAE’s General Women’s Union on the same date in 1975.
The choice isn't decorative. The General Women’s Union has spent more than five decades advancing women’s education, economic participation, political representation and social empowerment across the Emirates. Emirati Women’s Day was created to recognise that progress and, equally importantly, to keep the conversation moving forward.
Now in its eleventh year, the occasion has grown from a single date into a national programme of forums, cultural events, workshops, sports activities and community initiatives. The message behind this year’s theme is fairly clear: achievement isn't the finish line, and no one is putting their ambition into sleep mode.
