I think I have officially reached that stage of adulthood where a new sofa excites me more than a new pair of shoes. Clothing and make-up shopping have somehow been replaced by furniture hunting, and our biweekly pilgrimage? IKEA.

No complaints here — I love IKEA. But sometimes you aren't looking for another perfectly good basic. You are hunting for the furniture equivalent of that one killer bag — the piece that instantly elevates even the most basic jeans-and-black-tee outfit, you know?

So where do you go on your Dubai day off when you are looking for cool pieces to upgrade your home — but don’t fancy another trip to IKEA? Or perhaps you are just in the mood for a nice interiors browse. Let’s check out some other spots.

Location: Warehouse 17, Al Hawai Compound, Dubai Investments Park 1

If you are deep in your perfect beige era but still want your home to have some personality, Loom Collection is a very good place to start. Founded in Dubai in 2019 by Rozina and Brad Wissink as a family-run online furniture business, the brand has since opened a physical showroom in Dubai Investments Park — so you can actually see, touch and try everything in person.

Style-wise, think warm and tactile: pale oak, natural wood, creamy oatmeal and sandy tones, bouclé, wool and linen-like fabrics. Basically, plenty of beige — but the good kind, with enough texture and interesting shapes to keep things cool.

Price point: Mid-range to premium — sofas start at around 4,000 AED, dining tables at 2,000 AED and chairs at 1,000 AED.

Location: Warehouse 55, Arenco Warehouses, First Al Khail Street, Al Quoz Industrial Area 1

If you are less in the mood for a perfectly curated design showroom, where every vase knows exactly why it is there, and more up for a proper treasure hunt — head to The Attic Furniture Warehouse, tucked away in Al Quoz.

Style-wise, it is a bit of a beautiful identity crisis — in the best possible way. Rustic and boho meet mid-century influences and organic contemporary, with plenty of contrasts happily living next door to each other. Think chunky natural wood, woven rattan, oversized pendant lights, rougher textures and pieces that feel slightly vintage — though don’t expect a colour explosion. We are still very much in beige territory.

And that is really the point of The Attic. You don't necessarily come here to furnish an entire room in one heroic Saturday afternoon. You come to hunt down one or two pieces that stop your home from looking quite so generic: an unusual dining chair, a chunky wooden table, a rattan cabinet or a great mirror.

Price range: Affordable to mid-range — decor starts at around 60–100 AED, lighting at 200–500 AED, dining chairs at 500–1,000 AED, and larger furniture at around 1,200–3,000 AED.

WS Living Furniture Dubai is for those who want to keep things tasteful without playing it too safe. There is plenty of soft, contemporary furniture, but then come the darker woods, chunky shapes, marble, leather and — shockingly for Dubai interiors — actual colour. Yes, colour. Remember her?

The showroom itself is pretty massive, tucked away in Al Quoz, with everything from sofas and dining tables to rugs, lighting and smaller decor. So this is one of those places where you can arrive looking for a chair and, three hours later, find yourself mentally redesigning your entire flat.

But the real treasure is their rotating selection of antiques. WS Living sources them individually, so many pieces are genuine one-offs. In other words, if your greatest interior-design fear is walking into someone else's Dubai apartment and realising you have the exact same living room, start here.

Price range: Mid-range to premium — smaller decor starts from around 30–500 AED, dining chairs roughly 700–3,000 AED, larger sofas can reach 12,000–18,000 AED.

If Loom likes to keep things calm, Walls Nations is here to make a little more noise. The furniture is bolder and more playful, with sculptural shapes, oversized curves and chunky proportions that can easily become the main character in a room. And colour is very much invited too — from baby pink and teal to burnt orange and deeper, moodier shades.

The catalogue is huge, covering pretty much every corner of the home. So there is plenty of ready-designed furniture to browse and choose from.

But there is a little bonus if nothing feels quite right. I know, you want the sofa today. Now, ideally. But if you have that exact shade or shape living rent-free in your head, Walls Nations also offers customisation — you can play around with fabrics, materials, colours and finishes, or tweak an existing model to get much closer to what you imagined.

Price range: Mid-range — roughly 1,000–7,000 AED for most furniture, with larger/premium pieces reaching 10,000 AED and more.

Urban Nest is a bit of a gem — an independent Dubai interiors store founded in 2017 by Dutch entrepreneur Janaika Elders. The idea was to bring pieces to Dubai that you wouldn’t keep bumping into in every other furniture shop, and, to be fair, they have done a pretty good job of it.

There is a strong European contemporary feel, mixed with retro influences and plenty of 1970s and mid-century references. So if full-on vintage feels like too much of a commitment, but ultra-clean contemporary leaves you a little cold, Urban Nest sits rather nicely in between. And it isn’t just furniture. There is a huge décor selection too: ceramics, art prints, lamps, mirrors, rugs, books, tableware and smaller accessories — basically all those little things that stop a home looking like you moved in yesterday.

Price point: Mid-range to premium — dining chairs start at around 875 AED, benches sit around 2,450–3,200 AED, while sofas and larger statement pieces can reach 18,500 AED. There is also plenty of smaller décor at much friendlier prices.

This one you probably know without my help, but Klekktic simply has to be on the list. The brand was founded in Dubai and has kept things very local since: its furniture is handcrafted here, with plenty of room to customise the size, fabric, colour and finis

And local certainly doesn’t mean tiny — the catalogue has around 366 pieces, from sofas and beds to dining furniture, mirrors, outdoor pieces and accessories. Most are made to order, although there is a ready-to-buy selection for those of us who wanted the sofa yesterday. And if you just fancy a browse, there is a proper showroom in Al Quoz where you can see everything in real life.

Price range: Mid-range to premium — around 2,500 AED for smaller pieces, 6,000–10,000 AED for beds and larger furniture, and 7,000–20,000 AED for sofas.

At this point, we may as well admit that Al Quoz is doing rather well in this guide. But Assembly Vintage takes us somewhere slightly different — into proper collector territory. Founded by Mateen Shah, the store specialises in original vintage furniture sourced from around the world.

And the mix is quite something: Scandinavian furniture, Italian modernism, leather lounge chairs, chrome, Murano lighting and vintage Turkish rugs all live under the same roof. This is less “which version of this sofa would you like?” and more of a treasure hunt — many pieces are one-offs, so you never quite know what you will find.

Price range: Premium and collectible — furniture generally starts at around 4,000–5,000 AED, with many pieces sitting around 7,000–15,000 AED.
