Different Corners Of the City: Dubai Through the Lens Of Local Photographers

Photo: Kenneth Sagar

Everyone has their own Dubai. For some, it is the quiet streets of old neighbourhoods; for others, the people, colours and little details that make the city feel like home. And photographers are particularly good at noticing things the rest of us might walk straight past.

We picked a few photographers, each with their own way of seeing Dubai. Through their lenses, familiar places take on new meanings, ordinary moments become stories, and the city reveals sides of itself we might never have noticed before.

Kenneth Sagar

For Kenneth Sagar, Dubai is a city of quiet corners (read out piece about the abandoned villa!) and familiar places. His photos take us through the streets of Deira, Al Fahidi and Jumeirah, capturing old villas, architectural details and neighbourhoods that seem to move at their own pace. There is something wonderfully nostalgic about his work — even if you have never been to these places before.

Through his photos, Kenneth tries to capture not just what a place looks like, but what it feels like to be there, sharing both its atmosphere and his own impressions. And he does it beautifully.

Ola Allouz

Ola Allouz is interested in the stories hiding in everyday life. Born in Dubai, the Emirati photographer explores culture, memory and human connections, finding meaning in moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. Her work reminds us that a city's identity isn't just about its buildings, but also about the people who live in them.

Ali Khaleel

Ali Khaleel takes to the streets of Dubai with an eye for the unexpected. A passerby, an interesting shadow, two strangers sharing a moment — his photographs turn ordinary street scenes into something almost cinematic. Nothing needs to be staged when the city itself provides so many stories.

Preet Uday

Preet Uday sees Dubai through colour, geometry and clever compositions. His photographs transform familiar streets and everyday scenes into playful visual puzzles, where shapes, light and perfectly timed moments come together. The result is a Dubai you might have walked past a hundred times without ever noticing quite like this.
