Zendaya is celebrating her 28th birthday on September 1st, and we couldn't let it go by without a mention. Whether you have loved Zendaya since "Euphoria," have been a fan from her earlier days, or just recently discovered her, we have put together a list of little-known facts about the actress.
Fact 1. First video on YouTube
First up, if you want a glimpse of Zendaya from almost 14 years ago, here is her first YouTube video. There is not much going on — she is just introducing her official channel and saying it is "a place for happy smiley faces, lots of love, and dancing.”
Fact 2. Twice in the kindergarten
As a small child, Zendaya was so shy that she had to repeat kindergarten. "She would sit in the circle with the other kids and be totally silent," her mother, Claire Stoermer, recalls.
Fact 3. Zendaya, a singer
Did you know Zendaya sings? She surprised fans by appearing on stage during Labrinth’s set at Coachella 2023, where she performed "All for Us" and "I’m Tired" from "Euphoria."
Also, Zendaya released her debut album on September 17, 2013, featuring 11 tracks.
Fact 4. Harry Potter fan
Zendaya is a big fan of Harry Potter and Shrek. She said: "Some days I just want to go home, cuddle up with my dog, and watch a little Harry Potter. I also love Shrek."
Fact 5. Her greatest fear
As she said in Vanity Fair's video, her "greatest fear is disappointing people she cares about."
Fact 6. Who she admires the most
Living people she admires the most are her grandmothers.
Fact 7. His name is Law Roach
When Zendaya steps onto the red carpet, you can be sure everyone will be talking about her look the next day. This is thanks to her impeccable taste and, of course, her longtime stylist, Law Roach, with whom she has collaborated for many years.
Take, for instance, the recent Dune: Part Two premiere in London, where she wowed in a vintage Mugler couture piece from 1995. Or who could forget her Cinderella moment at the Met Gala, where her gown lit up with the wave of a magic wand? And then there was the 2024 Met Gala, where Zendaya’s appearance is still fresh in everyone’s mind; she wore two stunning dresses: an ocean blue gown by Maison Margiela’s John Galliano, complete with a dramatic matching headpiece (created by Stephen Jones for Margiela), and a never-before-seen vintage Givenchy couture piece from its Spring 1996 collection.
Let’s not overlook her wet-look Balmain dress at the Venice premiere of Dune, which fit like a second skin and left a lasting impression.
Not just movies, but music videos too
Zendaya isn’t just a movie star — she has appeared in music videos as well. She played a fierce warrior named Cut-Throat in Taylor Swift’s 2014 "Bad Blood" video, appeared in Beyoncé’s 2016 visual album "Lemonade," and was the "girl in Versace" that Bruno Mars sings about in his "Versace on the Floor" video.
