Staycation is no longer just a fancy word; it is a popular trend for both locals and expats in the UAE. And Fujairah is the best emirate if you are searching for peace and tranquillity. With plenty of swimming spots, picturesque mountains, and restaurants offering both local and European cuisines, what could be better? As a bonus, Oysters Heaven is coming — perfect for those who love this delicacy!
We have approached that time of the year, when deadlines are burning, projects keep piling up, stress level is rising, and on Friday you accidentally find yourself counting down the minutes to the precious weekend, when you can finally turn off your phone (or still not), close your laptop, and breathe out in peace.
For some, spending the weekend somewhere close to home is ideal (and is allowing you to quickly return back and catch up on your favourite Netflix series). Just grab a coffee at the nearest cafe, take a stroll to the padel court next to your building, and then come back home and order your favourite pizza — is not it a dream?
But I am sure: if you want to recharge both body and soul, the best solution is to change your surroundings. This is what I would prescribe for all the hardworking bees: get away from the hustle of the city and change the familiar scenery from your windows to the breathtaking mountain views. And Fujairah is the perfect option for that!
Where to stay? What to try? How to spend time? Let us figure it out!

Where to Stay

Address Beach Resort Fujairah
This hotel is designed to ensure that when you leave, you feel completely relaxed, no matter how long you plan to stay. There are several sunbathing spots to choose from: you can either stay near the pool, where it is a bit fresher and the bar is open almost all the time, or head to the beach and enjoy the sea breeze. Just remember — avoid getting your hair wet to keep it in good condition! Also, make sure you visit the hotel spa: it offers various types of massages, including candle massages and the massages for couples.
For those who want a bit of activity, there is the option to book a sunrise fishing trip. It sounds romantic, but to be honest, I have never tried it myself.

Fairmont Fujairah Hotel
Fairmont Hotel is an amazing option for those looking to escape the city and stay active at the same time. It offers a wide range of recreational activities, from sunset yoga to morning tennis and aqua Zumba. There are also plenty of water activities: you can go jet skiing, try flyboarding, or simply rent kayaks to paddle near the shore at sunset.
And if you are travelling with kids — there is a kids' club where they can have a blast while you enjoy some well-deserved downtime. After all, even parents (or especially!) need a little "me time".

Najd Al Meqsar Boutique Hotel
If you are after something truly unique and different, go to the Najd Al Meqsar Boutique Hotel. Technically it is located in the neighbouring emirate of Sharjah, but it is only a 30-minute drive from Fujairah, just 31 kilometre from Fujairah Mall.
The hotel is built within the historic Najd Al Meqsar fortress, which dates back over 300 years. Its design reflects the area's history, so when you are there, it feels like stepping back in time and the only reminders that you are still living in the 21st century are the televisions in the rooms and Eggs Benedict served for breakfast.

Fujairah: What to Do

If you are planning to come to Fujairah without an overnight stay in the hotel so no one will plan the activities for you (which, to be honest, is often my case), do not worry! There is plenty to do here!
Dibba Oyster Farm
In a small town called Dibba, there is an oyster farm that supplies oysters to nearly every hotel and restaurant in the UAE. Visually, the scene is not all that spectacular: it is a small area with boats and fishing nets scattered around, along with a wooden building in the middle — the packing house for freshly harvested oysters. But just think about it: this is where you can try the freshest oysters in the UAE! Dibba farm either sells oysters in the box, so you can enjoy it at home, or serve them on the spot with lemon and oyster sauce. Everything is well thought out: just off to the side of this setup, there are a few wooden benches with tables perched on a low cliff by the shore. It is the kind of place where you truly forget about everything.

Scuba Diving

Fujairah is a fantastic place for both experienced divers and beginners. Given that the emirate is generally mountainous, with many small islands near the coast, here you can always see stunning reefs and a variety of fish. If you are lucky enough, you might even spot some turtles!
Also, diving is an excellent stress reliever. Breathing underwater tends to be deeper and slowlier as you inhale fully through your mouth. Do this exercise for 30 to 45 minutes (that is the standard dive time) and you will feel like a brand new person!

Snoopy Island Chill + Snorkelling

Snoopy Island is a popular spot for locals who often come here for picnics — some set up umbrellas, some even pitch tents, but most just bring a towel, sunscreen, and sunglasses. Strangely, it is always quiet here — people spread out across the beach and never bother one another either with loud music, or with flying balls. It is also a nice spot for snorkelling — when the waves are calm, the water is clear, and you can easily spot fish.
One small tip: on your way from Dubai to Fujairah, you will pass a fruit market — stop there to grab some fruit and dates. We usually bring a watermelon and eat it with spoons — it is my top activity to unwind.

Where to Eat

STEKI
STEKI is a modern cafe right by the sea, serving Greek and Mediterranean cuisine. The menu is diverse and extensive. The most delicious dishes here are in the seafood part, but if that is not your thing, you will not leave hungry — try the chicken souvlaki or beef giouvetsi. The way they serve the food is pretty unique, maybe even a bit futuristic, but it matches perfectly with the restaurant's interior.
The place itself is bright, with spiral-shaped chandeliers and a floor decorated with fish and octopus illustrations (but it does not look weird or over-the-top — quite the opposite). And a spiral staircase — as a main feature of the restaurant! Definitely worth a visit!
Al Nouman Restaurant
The hidden gem of Fujairah is Al Nouman Restaurant. Visually, it is not much to look at — honestly, I would say its style is a bit outdated (there is a little too much gold for my taste). But the food… Absolutely delicious! If you are craving some good Arabic dishes — hummus, kebabs, and lamb ribs — you should definitely come here. I would recommend taking lamb chops — I tried them at other Arabic restaurants after this visit, but they weren’t even close.
Missing out on the coolest events in Dubai? We know where you’ll be in November: The Crowd Test Festival — the very first Art and Music Festival by The Sandy Times.
The lineup is incredible: Mainline Magic Orchestra from Spain, Eden Burns from New Zealand, and a lot of your favourite DJs like Hani J, Hassan Alwan, Bazzzuk, and more.
Mark your calendar, snag your tickets, and get ready: November 16, 2024, from 5 PM to 3 AM at Monkey Bar, Dubai.
