Your Week In Dubai: What To Do, April 14–20

A lot is happening this week.

One of your favourite spots, Akhu Manoushe, is closing this chapter — so it is your last chance to go back, hang out, and relive it one more time.

At the same time, Alserkal Avenue is going all in; Art Month officially kicks off, with a full programme of exhibitions, openings and events across the Avenue.

Add to that new gallery shows, design exhibitions and a few more low-key plans in between — and the week fills up quickly.

Save this and plan accordingly.

Tuesday, April 14. Fellow Travellers

Where? Tabari Artspace

A new show curated by Omar Kholeif just opened — and it is a good one.

Fellow Travellers brings together five women artists whose lives and work moved across cities, cultures and geographies — from Baghdad and Tehran to Paris, New York and beyond.

The lineup: Simone Fattal, Sonia Balassanian, Irene Scheinmann, Lalitha Lajmi and Luísa Correia Pereira.

Working across painting, ceramics, etching and mixed media, the pieces feel personal, abstract and slightly dream-like — shaped by movement, memory and starting over in new places.

There are also works that have rarely been shown before, so it is a rare chance to see them all together.

Wednesday, April 15. must i be useful?

Where? Foundry

Good news: the exhibition must i be useful? has been extended until April 26, so there is still time to see it.

The show reimagines everyday objects — the things we use without thinking — and gives them a break from being “useful.”

Here, objects lose their function and become something else entirely. Sculptural, playful, and sometimes absurd, they exist simply to be looked at, questioned, and felt.

In a world obsessed with productivity, the exhibition asks a question: what if things didn’t have to be useful at all?

Thursday, April 16. GAIA x Poubel

A collaboration we genuinely love. GAIA, the Greek-Mediterranean restaurant, turns its world into something you can wear.

Created with Poubel — the charm-based jewellery brand by The Gstaad Guy — this limited-edition bracelet brings together six hand-painted enamel charms on a sterling silver chain.

Each charm reflects GAIA’s signature universe: from the iconic Sea Bream and Frozen Yoghurt to Greek symbols like the Evil Eye, the Sun and the Sea.

Friday, April 17. Celebrate Akhu Manoushe

Where? Akhu Manoushe

A spot you definitely know and love.

Akhu Manoushe, the father-son duo, Mohammed Ali & Ibrahim Akkaoui, is closing. But not the whole story, just this chapter.

Throughout April, they are bringing people together one more time — to hang out, eat, and relive the moments.

If this place has ever been part of your routine and your weekends, don’t miss it.

Saturday, April 18. Art Month — Alserkal Avenue

Where? Alserkal Avenue

Art Month at Alserkal starts this Saturday. 18 exhibitions across the Avenue — and the whole weekend to explore them. More art, plus workshops, performances, music, public art and artist takeovers.

Expect five weekends of collaborations, bringing together the wider UAE creative community.

Programme details coming soon.

Sunday, April 19. Wildlife Photography of the Year

Where? Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi

One of the world’s most prestigious wildlife photography exhibitions is now on view in the Natural History Museum, Abu Dhabi.

Featuring award-winning images, the show captures the beauty and fragility of the natural world — from rare moments in the wild to powerful stories about conservation.

On view until June.

Monday, April 20. Don’t overload yourself

It is just the start of the week.
