8 Matcha Spots In Dubai That Pass the Vibe Check
Matcha has a reputation. It goes perfectly with Pilates, expensive activewear, design cafés and a lifestyle that uses #fitness without irony. It is less a drink, more an announcement that you have considered buying ankle weights.
In real life, however, matcha is more than a photogenic green accessory. It contains caffeine, antioxidants and L-theanine, an amino acid that, together with caffeine, may support attention and concentration — although research into matcha’s grander health promises is still limited. In other words, it can be a very respectable alternative to your fifth coffee, even if it arrives under a layer of pink strawberry foam.
If you are already a whisking professional, our guide to the best matcha brands is coming soon. If you just want someone else to make your cup perfectly, here are eight Dubai matcha spots approved by friends whose opinions we trust.
Maison Cha Cha
Best vibe for: A Downtown work session that quietly becomes breakfast, matcha and half your afternoon.
Downtown Dubai’s New York-inspired matcha bar understands that green tea doesn't always need to behave seriously. Alongside classic lattes and straight matcha, the menu includes taro, watermelon, coconut water and even an alcohol-free “matcha beer”. The sea salt vanilla version is sweet, creamy and dangerously easy to finish before you have taken the obligatory photo.
The bright interiors, healthy breakfasts and laptop-friendly tables make Maison Cha Cha a convincing all-day option rather than somewhere you visit exclusively for one colourful drink.
1990 Matcha
Best vibe for: Trying an Emirati-Japanese matcha twist, preferably with a Dot Cake on the side.
Dubai loves a drive-through, but 1990 Matcha gives the format an Emirati-Japanese plot twist. Located on Al Athar Street in Jumeirah 3, the café combines Japanese matcha with regional flavours: its popular drinks include iced date matcha and gahwa matcha.
Then there are the viral Dot Cakes: little chocolate, vanilla or red velvet desserts designed to be paired with equally photogenic mini drinks. Subtle? Not especially. Charming? Unfortunately, yes.
More Matcha
Best vibe for: Escaping the office for a drink that is technically matcha and spiritually pudding.
What began as an open-air pop-up now has a permanent home at Gate Avenue in DIFC. The space is clean, minimal and very committed to green, while the menu takes matcha in a considerably more decadent direction. Think crème brûlée matcha, White Coco Matcha and matcha brownies.
More Matcha is ideal when you want the supposed calm of tea but also want it to taste suspiciously like dessert. Balance comes in many forms.
DOPA
Best vibe for: An Alserkal gallery day followed by something green, cold and unapologetically extra.
Against the industrial backdrop of Alserkal Avenue, DOPA has extremely high dopamine potential — the name does warn you. Its bold branding is instantly recognisable, and the menu has probably converted more than a few people who previously insisted that matcha tasted like grass.
You can keep things classic, but DOPA is at its best when it gets playful: salted caramel, pandan foam, purple yam cloud and chocolate cheesecake matcha all make appearances. Its current Nostalgic Matcha mixes banana and melon with creamy matcha foam, like a childhood sweet that developed excellent taste.
Otaku
Best vibe for: Design people, dessert people and anyone whose camera eats before they do.
Dubai Design District contains multitudes, and several of them are very good at Japanese tea. Otaku pairs a brutalist, wabi-sabi-inspired interior with a dedicated matcha menu that treats the drink almost like a dessert category.
There is a classic latte for purists, but also salted vanilla crème, raspberry matcha, coconut-water Matcha Cloud and Sticky Mango Matcha. The latter blends mango, coconut milk and agave beneath a rich matcha foam, because sometimes serenity needs layers.
Koncrete
Best vibe for: Pretending you came to work while mostly admiring the furniture and your Coco Matcha.
Minimalist in appearance but not in flavour, Koncrete is a Brutalist-style coffee house, concept store and community space in Umm Suqeim. It has the confidence that Dubai’s more maximalist café scene sometimes forgets is an option.
Regulars praise its smooth matcha, while the Coco Matcha — a creamy coconut-and-matcha combination — has become one of its best-known orders. The space feels calm, considered and almost suspiciously effortless. Of course, considerable effort probably went into achieving that.
The Matcha Tokyo
Best vibe for: A beach walk followed by the most authentic cup on this list — or soft serve, because life is short.
This is the answer you give when someone who doesn't really drink matcha asks where to begin. The Dubai outpost of the Japanese brand sits at The Beach, JBR, facing Ain Dubai, and approaches matcha with something close to laboratory precision.
The Matcha Tokyo uses 100 per cent organic matcha imported from Japan and prepares it with traditional bamboo whisks. There are strawberry lattes and frozen vanilla variations for the curious, but the clean, vegetal ceremonial cup is the reason to visit. The matcha soft serve is a very persuasive second reason.
Orto
Best vibe for: A slow weekend morning, a waterside catch-up or recovering from somewhere much louder.
Set beside the Dubai Water Canal in Jumeirah, Orto has floor-to-ceiling windows, quiet interiors and the sort of peaceful view that makes you believe your life is briefly under control.
Its matcha selection ranges from a simple unsweetened latte to hazelnut and coconut combinations, accompanied by breakfasts and desserts. The neighbourhood café has no business being quite this popular, but the orderly weekend queue offers compelling evidence. Come for the matcha, stay because the canal view has convinced you there is nowhere urgent to be.
