Photographers across the Arab world capture these scenes: families preparing food, people gathering for iftar, children playing, and quiet moments of reflection throughout the holy month.

This is a photo by Egyptian photographer Osama Sherif, taken in 2023. The image captures a family iftar on a rooftop during Ramadan, coinciding with the annual communal table organised by residents of Cairo’s Matariya district, a tradition that brings neighbours together to share food, light, and celebration.
