Your Week In Dubai: What To Do, August 12–18

12 Aug 2025

We have all been at that point where you don’t want to work anymore, you need to chill, but you also don’t want to sit at home doing nothing and staring at the wall. You want something, but you are not sure what exactly. That is why every week we put together a list of Dubai events we would totally go to ourselves. Here is this week’s lineup — enjoy.

Tuesday, August 12. Good dinner at One Life DXB

Sharing my own little memory here. Last time I was in Dubai, I made sure to go to One Life DXB in d3 — because I know that everything these guys do is incredible. I went there in the evening and ordered the Filthy Falafel Wrap. And oh my god, it was so good my head went round. Just go there and enjoy either this meal or anything else on the menu.

Wednesday, August 13. Edward Scissorhands

At Cinema Akil, 7 PM. For everyone who has already watched it. For those who still haven’t. Go and enjoy the story of Edward — the gentle man with scissors for hands — as he navigates love, loneliness, and fitting into a world that doesn’t quite know what to do with him. It is strange, beautiful, bittersweet — and the very first movie where Johnny Depp teamed up with Tim Burton.

Thursday, August 14. Al Shindagha with AI

Where? Realiity House 341, Al Shindagha Museum
Step into the past — but not as you know it. The Al Shindagha with AI exhibition reimagines the historic neighbourhood through creative tech: think animated archives, digitally rebuilt architecture, and AI-powered reflections on cultural memory, identity, and change. A fresh way to see one of Dubai’s oldest districts.
Open daily, 8 am–3 pm; free entry — no registration required.

Friday, August 15. Try the best Filipino food ever

Where? Kooya at Radisson Blu
Chef JP Anglo and his team will cook what might just be the best Filipino food — and you really shouldn’t miss it. What to order? JP shared his favourites with us in our interview, with picks for both longtime fans of Filipino cuisine and total first-timers.

Saturday, August 16. The Karak Sounds in Old Dubai

Where? Sabaa Event Space, AlSeef Heritage Hotel, Al Seef St — Umm Hurair 1
Karak Sounds® heads to Al Seef for a night where regional sounds meet global beats. Curated by The Karak®, this music-forward series is more than a party — it is a celebration of identity, culture, and community, set against the charm of Old Dubai.
Lineup: HEND, BEN PALACE, BYMISHH
Important note: all guests must be 21+

Sunday, August 17. The Boys Are Alright

Where? Bayt AlMamzar
Bayt AlMamzar opens The Boys are Alright, curated by Jumairy, bringing together works by eleven Emirati artists (Ahmed AlMulla, Ahmed AlSharhan, Gaith Abdulla, Hamid Al Najjar, Jumairy, Khalid Al Amimi, Maktoum Al Maktoum, Mohammed AlMaktoum, Mohammed Singel, Talal Al Najjar, and Ziad Al Najjar) — all alumni of Rashid School for Boys — to revisit the spaces and moments that shaped them. Classrooms, corridors, and football fields reappear in paintings, objects, and installations, exploring how time reframes boyhood and adolescence. Mischief meets memory, innocence meets self-awareness, and the past meets the clarity of the present.
The show will last till 26 October 2025.

Monday, August 18. Nothing

Yes, please.
