Did Bridgerton S3 Scratch the Itch? It Is Not All Good News

14 Jun 2024

Dearest Gentle Reader, did you miss me?
While everyone eagerly anticipated the arrival of Bridgerton Season 3 Part 2, not everyone was thrilled about how the show was released. After waiting nearly two years for Season 3, many fans felt it might have been a misstep for the streaming giant to release it in two parts instead of all at once.
@Viva912 on Reddit said, “I honestly think it was a huge mistake splitting it up. It works for some shows like Stranger Things and You, but it really throws pacing off here.”
@fantastic-manner1994 has this to say “I think a lot of it is that the series was almost certainly not written to be split in two parts, and imo it shows.”
Besides the frustration over the split, some fans were also unhappy with the storyline, feeling that the two-part release made the first part seem rushed.
@demonicpeach_22 chipped in on the same thread saying “Pen and Colin should have had more flashbacks to their friendship. We needed more of Colin's writing (the actual travel part). More of Pen getting to know Colin as a person and not just Eloises brother that she admired from afar.”

What were some of the predictions seen online?

After the release of the official trailer and viewers screening part one, people had a lot to say.
@demonicpeach_22 says, “Yes!! we are going to get a lot more of Polin in the second half, too bc they’ll be engaged and have the whole lady Whistledown plot line to go through.”
While everyone is so excited to see the Polin love story, other viewers are speculating which child will come next in the Bridgerton series:
@Zealot1029 admits they want Eloise to take centre stage, saying, “I don’t like the split, but I am excited for the second half. For example, are we gonna see Sir Philip this season? I can only assume that we might towards the end once Polin is married.” Insinuating that her love interest in the book, Sir Philip, will be introduced somehow.

What was delivered on June 13th?

Attention: If you don't like spoilers, don't continue reading this article; there are plenty of them ahead.
Kate and Anthony have news
In episode one, it is revealed that Kate and Anthony are expecting a baby! This happy news brings the Bridgerton family closer as the Viscount and Viscountess navigate the excitement and challenges of impending parenthood. And soon reveal they are planning a trip to India. Might this be a necessary storyline to include as to why they won’t appear in the next season?
Francesca finds a love she has been longing for
It looks like the Queens sparkler has found a match that she is happy with! Francesca Bridgerton has found her match in a certain lord, and their engagement and subsequent wedding is secretly celebrated. But Lady Bridgerton still has her reservations about the match.

Lady Danbury reveals something dark about her past
Lady Danbury's past comes to light when her brother Marcus visits. Revealed in “Queen Charlotte, a Bridgerton Story”, Lady Danbury had a very unhappy marriage, and it looks as though it was largely due to Marcus's actions.
A truth is revealed to Colin (we can't say more)
Colin and Penelope's paths cross in an unfortunate part of town, and suddenly the pair's relationship becomes rocky. Can they ever go back to being happy?
A somewhat quiet character comes to light
Faced with an unwanted, somewhat forced marriage, Cressida Cowper boldly declares herself Lady Whistledown to regain control of her life. This shocking announcement not only halts her father's plans but also transforms Cressida from a sidelined character into a powerful figure, challenging societal norms and asserting her independence.

My honest opinion

I would genuinely class myself as a true Bridgerton fan. As someone who is currently reading the books and thoroughly enjoys the show, I must say I was disappointed and, quite frankly, bored.
Nicola Coughlan is a true revelation in her portrayal as Penelope and Claudia Jessie brings such humour and depth to Eloise but despite the great performances, the story felt slow and dragged at times. I found myself checking my phone more often than I’d like to admit. It is frustrating because the potential for a gripping storyline was there, but it just didn’t hit the mark this season.
