Holiday Guide: How To Assemble a Summer Wardrobe For Men

14 Jun 2024

Once the heat breaks in, it is very tempting to pull on the first T-shirt that falls out of your closet and a random pair of shorts but don’t be in a rush! Keep up with our tips and curated selection of summer essentials for men that will effortlessly help you stay cool — from any possible perspective.
When it comes to summer clothing, comfort should be a top priority, so build a habit of reading the labels and go for breathable materials with moisture- and thermal-regulating properties. Have no clue which ones they are? Check with our fabric guide (you are welcome).
Now that you know which clothes to search for, think of silhouettes. Even if you have been actively hitting the gym for the past nine months, try not to showcase the results of your hard work through squeeze outfits. Not for the sake of humbleness, but for your own well-being. The looser your attire is, the better your skin ventilates, preventing your body from overheating.
Keeping in mind these fundamentals, reconsider your to-go choices, replace ordinary things with more elevated alternatives and don’t be afraid to play with textures and textiles. Let's start, for instance, by switching boring T-shirts for polo shirts (like Zegna, Lacoste or Marni).

Another great option — a lightweight shirt that not only works as an independent piece but also helps with layering on a fresh evening. Pick a basic all-arounder (check this one by Jacquemus) or a statement item with a funny summery print (Casablanca) and don’t ignore long-sleeved ones (Zegna) as they will serve as a perfect protection from the sun.

If you are still not ready to let T-shirts go, at least give a try to the new cuttings and fabrics. Here are some examples from Jil Sander, Fursac, and Diesel.

If you have a goal to keep your wardrobe minimalistic and build a versatile capsule, choose your tops in a matching colour and material pallets and get bottoms that will pair with all of them. For example, grab neat clean-cut Bermuda shorts in denim (Jil Sander), canvas of any neutral colour (Jacquemus) or something that you have never wear (look at these twisted workswear shorts).

…or a pair of loose linen trousers.
…or even a matching set that you can combine with other elements of your wardrobe (check this shirt and trousers from AMI Paris). And if you are not in the mood to think of your outfits, just get a jumpsuit (look at this one).
