Hats On: The Wearable Headwear Edit

30 Oct 2025

Headwear is definitely having a moment — and as the latest collections prove, designers are getting more adventurous about what we wear on our heads. Of course, some might go full drama with intricate tricorn hats straight out of the 18th century (shoutout to Jonathan Anderson for that theatrical Dior debut), but if you are after something a little more casual yet still effortlessly chic, here are a few styles worth playing with.

Pillbox

Structured, modest, but never boring — the pillbox is back in rotation. The fashion icons of the last century wore it with tweed suits and gloves, but today it feels surprisingly fresh when paired with casual pieces.

Try it with denim, an oversized coat or even a simple turtleneck — it is all about balance. Think less First Lady, more and more cool-girl-off-duty.

Fiddler cap

You probably owned one in the 2010s, and if you didn’t, you definitely knew someone who did. The fiddler cap has aged surprisingly well. It carries a bit of attitude, the kind that instantly sharpens a soft outfit. It is what you reach for when a beret feels too Parisian and a baseball cap too predictable. The trick is to style it with something that doesn’t compete: like a simple knit or wide trousers.

Balaclavas and bonnets

Once reserved for cold weather and ski slopes, balaclavas and bonnets have now gone high-fashion. They aren't the most obvious pick for the Middle Eastern climate, but still a clever one — especially as a fresh alternative for modest dressers. The latest versions go far beyond wool and cashmere, with lace, crochet, and even leather stepping in to redefine the look — light enough to wear without breaking a sweat.

Bucket hat

Technically still around from last season, but it is reinvented itself enough to earn a fresh mention. This time it is all about texture and exaggeration — raffia, sculpted felt, unexpected prints. The new bucket is rather for shape than for shade: a little twist suddenly makes it feel grown-up, changing the entire mood of an outfit.
