Cycling enthusiasts around the world are gearing up for the L’Étape Dubai by Tour de France, which will take place in our metropolis from 1st to 2nd of February, 2025.
This atmospheric event, inspired and created by the legendary Tour de France, brings the thrill of professional cycling to the UAE, offering amateur riders a chance to challenge themselves in a race modelled after the iconic stages of the French Grand Tour.
If you are wondering what Tour de France is — check out this article.
If you are lacking some context in terms of why the UAE is such an important spot for Le Tour — read about this legend — and carry on with this article to learn more.
Why L’Étape?
Briefly, “etape” is a “stage”, which is essentially one racing day in the multiple-stage races like Tour de France.
What is L’Étape by Tour de France?
L’Étape by Tour de France is a series of cycling events organised worldwide, allowing amateur and professional cyclists alike to experience the magic of the Tour de France. With challenging routes, enthusiastic crowds, and the same competitive spirit, these races provide a unique opportunity to ride in the footsteps of Tour de France legends.
The idea is to give one a chance to actually feel what it is like to pass these iconic yellow gates, while the crowd is cheering. In fact, there are 20+ countries that are taking part in this sport event across the world, allowing their residents to feel just like the stars of the cycling world.
Every participant will feel like a winner, as everyone will gain a well-deserved participation medal and race champions will get trophies just like those winners of Le Tour get! Imagine having that thing at home and bamboozling every new guest with it!

Can I be a part of this?
What is great about this event is that anyone can participate and imagine themselves on the podium of Champs-Élysées.
The 2025 edition of L’Étape Dubai features several categories, ensuring there is something for every type of rider (and even their families):
- The Race (110 km): Tailored for serious cyclists, this category challenges riders with a gruelling course that mimics the intensity of a Tour de France stage. It is the ultimate test of endurance and skill, attracting seasoned cyclists looking to push their limits.
- The Ride (60 km): This category is designed for those who want to experience the excitement of the event without the full intensity of the Race. It is a more accessible yet still challenging option for intermediate riders.
- Family Ride (20 km): Perfect for families and casual cyclists, this ride provides a relaxed atmosphere where participants can enjoy the event together. It is a great way to involve everyone, regardless of cycling experience.
- Kids Race (300m – 3km): Catering to the youngest cyclists, these races are a fun and inclusive way for children to experience the joy of cycling. Distances vary to accommodate different age groups, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for all. You won’t be seeing @cyclist_martin there, as he definitely will be among the champions of The Race and The Ride.
More than that, Škoda is going to have their own team on L’Etape, so The Sandy Times team is on for some adventures, hoping we could also be a part of such an amazing challenge! For those like us, dreaming about the trophies and Škoda jerseys — register to participate here. Škoda jerseys are very, very pretty, at least, this should be a great motivation.
A Festival of Cycling
Beyond the races, L’Étape Dubai will feature a vibrant festival atmosphere, with a village area where spectators and participants can enjoy various activities, food, and entertainment. It is not just a race — it is a celebration of cycling culture, community, and the enduring legacy of the Tour de France.
Whether you are an experienced cyclist aiming for the podium or a family looking for a fun day out, L’Étape Dubai by Tour de France promises an unforgettable experience. It is more than just a race; it is a chance to be part of something truly special in the cycling world.
