Dubai Design Week

For six days, d3 will once again become the centre of the Dubai art season: a place where chairs are conceptual, installations are immersive and everyone appears to understand what “material-led practice” means. Now in its 12th edition, Dubai Design Week brings designers, architects and creative practitioners together through exhibitions, commissions, talks, workshops, pop-ups and large-scale installations.

The programme includes Abwab, dedicated to practitioners from West, South and East Asia and Africa; Urban Commissions, which explores design in the public realm; a hands-on Maker Space; and the weekend Marketplace for regional designers, makers and home-grown businesses. Among the most accessible Dubai art exhibitions and design events this autumn, much of its public programme is free. Downtown Design

Downtown Design is the polished commercial centre of Dubai Design Week and the region’s leading fair for contemporary design. It brings international brands, independent studios, regional designers and limited-edition collections under one roof, accompanied by installations, pop-ups, masterclasses and talks.

While not strictly one of the art exhibitions in Dubai in autumn 2026, it is an essential stop for anyone interested in the increasingly blurred territory between art, interiors and collectible design. This is where you discover what your home could look like if budget, available space and practical considerations briefly stopped interfering. It is equally useful for industry professionals, collectors and anyone who has ever looked at an ordinary lamp and thought, “I need something with a stronger point of view.”

Art Here 2026 and the Richard Mille Art Prize

The sixth edition of Art Here turns its attention to "Confluences": the ways histories, cultures and migrations across the Indian Ocean continue to shape identities and everyday life. Curated by Kamini Sawhney, the exhibition will feature shortlisted artists from the GCC and India.

One of the key contemporary art exhibitions in the UAE in 2026, Art Here places regional voices within a much wider history of movement and exchange. Across five months, 32 participants working in architecture, anthropology, urbanism, art, education and community practice will explore how spaces can create care, solidarity and collective life. Installations, films, performances, workshops and lectures will unfold across historical and contemporary sites in Sharjah. In short, this is architecture as a social force rather than a very expensive object with dramatic lighting.

Frieze Abu Dhabi

Abu Dhabi Art is entering its international-brand era. After 17 years as one of the defining events of the UAE art scene, the fair is evolving into Frieze Abu Dhabi. It will become the first Frieze fair in the Middle East, joining editions in London, Los Angeles, New York, Chicago and Seoul.

The inaugural edition will bring a tightly selected group of international and regional galleries to Manarat Al Saadiyat, with larger stands, artist commissions, talks and curated sections. Global Futures will focus on solo presentations by early- and mid-career artists connected to the UAE and West Asia, while Frieze Masters Abu Dhabi will feature objects from West Asia dating from Antiquity to the early 20th century.

It is a major new chapter for contemporary art in the UAE, but not a complete identity transplant. Frieze Abu Dhabi is building on the regional relationships, collector base and nearly two decades of community-building established by Abu Dhabi Art. Living Legacies: Protecting Heritage, Building Hope

Created with ALIPH, the International Alliance for the Protection of Heritage, Living Legacies looks at how communities protect and restore cultural heritage in some of the world’s most difficult environments. Through objects, projections and personal testimonies, the exhibition brings attention to the people doing the careful, often dangerous work of preserving history while history is still happening around them.

The subject is serious, but the emphasis isn't only on loss. It is also on resilience, knowledge and the stubborn human instinct to save what matters. After a year that has made the word “fragility” feel slightly too familiar, an exhibition centred on protection and hope arrives at the right moment.

Guggenheim Abu Dhabi Opening

After 20 years of announcements, revised timelines and increasingly cautious optimism, Guggenheim Abu Dhabi is finally opening. Designed by Frank Gehry, the monumental museum occupies around 80,000 square metres and includes 30 galleries connected by a central atrium, alongside ten enormous sculptural cones rising through the building. Subtle, it is not.

The collection will focus on modern and contemporary art from the 1960s onwards, bringing global practices into conversation with artists and perspectives from West Asia, North Africa and South Asia. Rather than arranging everything into a tidy chronological march, the museum will explore themes including abstraction, popular culture, land, language and storytelling. Visitors will be able to choose their own routes through the galleries, which means getting slightly lost can now be described as an independent curatorial decision.

The opening will transform both the UAE contemporary art scene and the wider international perception of Saadiyat Cultural District. Together with Louvre Abu Dhabi and the capital’s expanding network of institutions, it also gives visitors even more reason to treat the art galleries and museums of Dubai and Abu Dhabi as one connected cultural itinerary.
