Uniqlo Makes Modest Wear Now. And Here Is Who Else Does
For years, finding modest clothing on the high street involved the kind of strategic thinking normally reserved for James Bond operations. One long-sleeved dress, one undershirt, one pair of trousers, several safety pins and the quiet acceptance that the outfit might become unbearable outdoors.
Now, mass-market brands have finally noticed that modest dressers exist — and that they shop. Uniqlo has launched its first standalone hijab collection, joining retailers and sportswear giants including H&M, ASOS, Nike, Adidas and Lululemon. Some offer proper hijabs and purpose-built modestwear; others have assembled a convenient edit of long dresses and oversized shirts and called it a day. Progress comes in many silhouettes.
Here are the mainstream brands making modest fashion easier to find — and what their collections actually offer.
Uniqlo
Uniqlo’s first standalone hijab collection is LifeWear doing what LifeWear does best: making something highly practical look pleasantly uncomplicated.
Launched on August 17, 2026 in Malaysia, Indonesia, Singapore and the Philippines, the range includes three styles. The AIRism UV Protection Hijab uses the brand’s moisture-wicking, quick-drying fabric, making it particularly sensible for hot and humid weather. There is also a lightweight Georgette Hijab with a soft drape and a Satin Hijab for occasions when sweat-wicking technology isn't quite the dress code.
The collection follows Uniqlo’s long-running modestwear collaborations with British-Japanese designer Hana Tajima. The only obvious complaint is that it isn't yet available everywhere. Apparently, overheating remains a geographically exclusive experience.
H&M
H&M officially entered modest fashion in 2018 with LTD, an online capsule featuring kaftan-style dresses, embroidered tunics, long skirts and coordinated trousers. It was flowing, decorative and remarkably committed to proving that covering more skin didn't require dressing like a reluctant background character in a period drama.
Today, H&M offers dedicated Modest Style edits in Middle Eastern markets including the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar and Kuwait. Depending on the season, shoppers can find maxi dresses, longline tunics, loose co-ords, beach abayas and plenty of layering options.
The selection is broad rather than strictly designed for hijabi women, so some pieces may still require creative layering. Even modest fashion, it seems, can't entirely escape the industry’s devotion to sheer sleeves.
ASOS x IYAL
ASOS already had a substantial modestwear edit, but in March 2026 it went a step further by becoming the exclusive UK and European wholesale partner for IYAL.
The label debuted on the platform with 64 styles spanning occasionwear, tailoring and elevated everyday clothing. There are dresses with ruffles and cape details, coordinated cotton sets, tailored skirt suits and matching hijabs in plain colours and statement prints.
The palette moves between versatile neutrals and brighter coral, orange and cobalt blue, with pieces designed for Eid celebrations but wearable beyond them. Because buying an entire outfit for one festive lunch is glamorous in theory and financially offensive in practice.
Nike
Nike’s contribution to modest fashion is largely about letting Muslim women exercise without their clothing becoming an additional sport.
The Nike Pro Hijab was developed with Muslim athletes and launched commercially in 2017. Its pull-on design uses lightweight, breathable mesh intended to remain secure during running, training and competition without pins or constant readjustment.
Nike later introduced Victory Swim, a modular full-coverage swimwear collection comprising a swim hijab, tunic and leggings. The garments were designed to dry quickly, minimise clinging and address the buoyancy problems associated with conventional covered swimwear. There is also built-in support and UPF protection, proving that technical sportswear can, in fact, acknowledge more than one type of body.
adidas
adidas has developed a dedicated Modest Wear edit that brings together sports hijabs, full-coverage swimwear, loose training trousers, oversized tops and long-sleeved activewear.
Its hijab selection includes designs for running, training and swimming, alongside premium versions from adidas by Stella McCartney. Elsewhere in the collection, shoppers can find quick-drying swim separates, wide-leg track trousers and longline outerwear across adidas Performance, Sportswear and Originals.
The result sits somewhere between technical sportswear and recognisable Three Stripes street style. Modesty is the requirement; looking as though you have been issued a school sports uniform isn't.
Lichi
Lichi’s Modest edit is aimed at shoppers who want greater coverage but have no intention of abandoning drama.
The selection includes maxi dresses, long skirts, tailored sets, high-neck knitwear, statement coats and occasional pieces supplied with coordinating wide scarves. The overall aesthetic remains polished, feminine and highly prepared for social media.
Not every garment meets every interpretation of modest dressing: some silhouettes are fitted, while others may still need an extra layer. It is therefore better described as a modest-friendly fashion edit than a specialist hijabi collection. Think full-length glamour, but read the product measurements before emotionally committing.
