What makes an artist become part of history?

Is it simply writing songs that people remember? Of course. But perhaps even more importantly, it is becoming the artist who inspires the next generation of great musicians. That is exactly what we are exploring in our Under the Influence series.

This time, the spotlight is on Kate Bush — the English singer-songwriter, musician and producer widely regarded as one of the most innovative artists in popular music. Like Bush, Björk loves turning ordinary ideas into something mysterious and slightly surreal. Human Behaviour imagines humans from an animal's perspective, the kind of unexpected shift in viewpoint that Kate Bush adored. Both artists also treat the voice as an instrument rather than simply a way to deliver lyrics, constantly reshaping it to tell the story.
