Dubai Insiders: Wathek Allal On His Brand And the Art Of Making Friends
25 Nov 2025
This is our sixth week discovering Dubai through the people who give the city its pulse — and today’s guest is someone full of contrasts. He is a skateboarder who happens to love chess, an aviation professional building his own brand on the side, and a man who now sticks to office hours (even though no one really checks if he shows up at 9 am), despite spending his childhood spray-painting his school schedule on the walls in Syria — much to his neighbours’ irritation.
Meet Wathek Allal — known for his clean skateboard tricks and for his urban fashion brand, Precious Trust.
The conversation turned out to be fun, honest, and full of memories. Beyond the things you would expect — his favourite food spots and his go-to outfit — Wathek opened up about his early years in Dubai after leaving the war in Syria, arriving without a word of English. He spoke about the differences in skateboarding styles between the UAE and the rest of the world, thanks to all the travelling he does, and, of course, the story behind his much-loved fashion brand. So stay tuned — the next 20 minutes of this podcast are a good one.
Here are four things to discover in our podcast with Wathek:
- What is it really like to move to Dubai at school age? Spoiler: it is tough — especially when you don’t speak English, and — funnily enough — Arabic isn’t quite enough either. The thing that made it easier to make friends and pick up the language? Skateboarding.
- Wathek’s favourite places to eat. First up: Amongst Few — not just because his office is literally upstairs in the same building, but because it is genuinely a great spot. Second: 3Fils — a classic among many of our insiders, so if you haven’t tried it yet, you absolutely should. High Joint for burgers, Rascals for sandwiches… and a bonus: the story of Wathek’s first (and only) cooking attempt — which went exactly as you think it did.
- What it actually feels like to run a fashion brand in Dubai. The brand was born the day Wathek stumbled upon the perfect pair of jeans — except they were women’s jeans in the tiniest size. That moment made him think, “Why don’t I just make my own?” In this episode, he talks about everything: the biggest challenges of building a brand, what his day-to-day really looks like, and which pieces have become the most popular among Dubai residents.
- Where Wathek’s love for graffiti comes from. If you aren't in a listening mood today, here is one spoiler: back in school, he used to draw graffiti on the hijabs of his sister’s classmates — his first little side hustle. And then came his first real wall.

Come for the list of legendary fast-food spots, stay for the long stories about the Precious Trust brand, school days in Syria and Dubai, and — unexpectedly — a brilliant idea: Dubai definitely needs more chess clubs.
