Her Royal Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser Al-Missned is undoubtedly one of the main fashion icons in the Middle East. Known for finely blending modernity and tradition, she seamlessly incorporates her cultural background with uncompromising self-expression.
We decided to look closer into Sheikha’s wardrobe to understand the inspiration behind her outfit choices. By the way, while exploring her style, we stumbled upon an Instagram account dedicated to her fashion.
Power dressing
For the last decades, Sheikha Moza has played a crucial role in Qatar’s development: she managed to become a stereotype-breaker and an actual female leader in a traditionally male-dominated society. For her duty calls, Moza often opts for power suits that emphasise her leadership and authority. Many of them are customs from haute couture archive collections adjusted to the rules of modest clothing. These include designs by Jean Paul Gaultier, Valentino, Stephane Rolland, Chanel, Schiaparelli, Christian Dior, Ulyana Sergeenko, and other high-end fashion houses.
A modest twist on modern fashion
Customisation is, in general, a common practice for Sheikha. While setting an example of a modern Arabian woman open to global trends, she still keeps modesty as her core value. One does not need to be compromised for another, so Moza adapts designs from runaway collections to the rules of Shariat.
Traditional clothes
Despite her outstanding collection of garments from global brands, Sheikha Moza stays true to her roots and regularly supports local talents, frequently mixing creations of European couturiers with traditional attire such as abayas tailored by Qatari designers. For instance, Harlienz, Hamadis, Jabador, Yasmin Mansour or Shahtoosh.
Haute Couture
Another essential aspect of Sheikha Moza's style is her penchant for posh couture gowns, which she often wears for state visits and high-level events. Many of these gowns are unique and made to order.
Among Moza's favourites are Valentino, Christian Dior, Ulyana Sergeenko, Stephane Rolland, Armani Privé, Ronald van der Kemp, and Ralph & Russo.
Sport chic
Sheikha’s appearances at sports events are another example of modesty meeting global trends. Wear an abaya, but make it activewear? She is willing to give it a try.
