Ask the Local: Muscat Spots, Picked By Mohammed Said

The best way to discover a place is always through the people who live there. Locals know what doesn’t make it onto maps — the quiet corners, the evolving scenes, and the spots that truly define a city’s rhythm.

So when the idea of putting together a guide to Muscat came up, we decided to turn to Mohammed Said — an Omani creative and visual director, fashion model, part of Sard Visuals, and a person who knows his city inside out.

Here, he shares his personal selection of spots — from hidden gems to well-loved locations that reflect the true essence of the country.

Hafsah Sweets & Ice Cream

Mohammed Said: "Although Hafsah is relatively new, it carries a beautiful old-school concept that immediately reminds us of childhood. The whole idea behind it feels nostalgic, like the classic ice cream places many of us grew up with."

Ooh! Sandwiches

Mohammed Said: "Ooh! is also a newer spot, but it’s built around a retro concept. Their sandwiches bring back the feeling of the kind of food we used to grab at amusement parks as kids — fun, simple, and full of flavour."

NoName Coffee Bar

Mohammed Said: "One of my favourite cafés in Oman. They have a great breakfast and brunch menu, and their coffee is consistently good. I also really enjoy their açaí bowls — it’s a great place to start the day or have a relaxed morning."

SteakCo (Steak Company)

Mohammed Said: "In my opinion, they serve the best steak in town. I’ve tried steak in many places around the world, and SteakCo really stands out overall in terms of quality and taste."

Kalabash Restaurant & Lounge

Mohammed Said: "Kalabash offers a variety of dishes from different cuisines, and their food is consistently delicious. It’s a great spot when you’re looking for something flavourful and satisfying."
